Best New Restaurant: Eva's Eva's has moved!!! Maybe because that first 100 feet of Burns avenue has totally gone downhill. Bob and Netty, San Ignacio's dynamic duo, are at it again. They have great Belizean food, and are now a block away from said trouble spot. I've only heard good things about the food and the atmosphere in the last week! They are on Far West street, near Martha's Hotel.
Best All Around Food: Hannah's Hannah's rules, from the quesodillas, which are huge and tasty, to the lamb curry, to the omlettes, Hannah's wins hands down. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are all covered here. Located on Burns avenue one block from downtown.
Best Home Cooking: Mom's Place Mom's has a bacon cheese burger that will knock your socks off, making this the winner of the Best Burger Joint too. The chicken fried steak and the fried chicken will keep you coming back every day! They also have the local food if you want panades, garnaches, salbutes, etc. This is actually a spin off from the original Mom's that was in Belize City from 4 decades ago! 3 generations of cooks is why it's so great. Mom's can be found on Joseph Andrews Drive, across from Sacred Heart College.
Best Sri Lankan: Serindib Serendib might be the only Sri Lankan, but it's still wonderful food with a nice, aestetic patio out back. Abner, your waiter, qualifies as best waiter, by far, in Cayo. Ask him for anything, and you'll get it quickly and correctly. Located on Burns avenue right next to the JNC mall.
Best 24 Hour Diner: Eagle's Landing Eagle's Landing is the only 24 hour restaurant in Belize! Great food, and amazing prices. They'll be putting the bad restaurants out of business soon. Try the burritos; they are huge, and very well priced. If you are done clubbing, and are ready to munch, head there! Located across the street from the Belize bank, next to Firenza Cafe.
Best Italian: Amore Mio Amore Mio is superior in every aspect! Great appetizers, food and deserts. Small and quaint, just like you're on an Italian back street. They have recently added a good and inexpensive lunch menu! Many say it's the best lunch deal in the country since $5 gets you a full meal. Located in the JNC mall right next to the bus drop off.
Best Indian: South Indian Restaurant Try their ginger lime juice, it'll have you wanting a pitcher of it. Their simosas are what they are known for, and must be tried. Here is the page with the scans of their amazing menu Located in the Plaza Del Rio mall.
Best Coffee Shop: Peek-A-Boo Peek-A-Boo Coffee and Lingerie shop is great. Yeah, that is actually a new trend here! There are 2 coffee and lingerie shops in Cayo now. Gives them a good reason to have runways installed every now and then for modeling shows. Way to go! They have a nice little pastry menu, free WiFi, and a great view of the center of downtown. They are on the second floor, right across the street from the Belize Bank.
Best Shake and Smoothie Shop: Vivian's Vivian's Coffee and Ice Cream shop is great. Their coffee smoothies are always great to cool one off. Good ice cream too. All the local students go there, which is a good sign. They also have some decent nachos and good pastries, along with slushies and smoothies. Located on Joseph Andrews Drive, 3 blocks from downtown, next to Sacred Heart College, and across the street from Mom's Place.
Best Family Hang Out: Hode's Place Hode's Place is where everything under the sun can be found. Video games, air hockey, pool tables, playground(in a small orchard), jukebox, and a small casino too. Try the burritos, they are big and cheap. Located next to Macaw park.
Best Chinese: Winnie's Winnie's is one of the newest Chinese restaurants, but it's already the best one out there. They have the best wonton soup around, and their fried wontons are delicious too. The chop suey is outstanding too. They have a big, open restaurant too, and can be found up the double lane Joseph Andrews drive where it turns into a single lane.
Best Pizza Joint: Mr Greedy's too They perfected the pizza at their Santa Elena location, and then moved downtown - still known for their amazing pizza. They have recently completely redesigned their outdoor area; they've added a great bar, giving the place a much more open look and feel. Their happy hour, which runs from 3 to 6, has the best prices on local rum drinks. They offer free highspeed wi-fi for customers, Located on Burns Ave.
Best Mexican: Rolson's Cocina With a great view to match the comida too. Located on the way towards Benque and turn right before the gas station on the way out of town.
Best Steakhouse: J & K's Great ambiance, along with some nice choice cuts. Located next to the Cahal Pech football park.
Best Fried Chicken: Maxim's Maxim's used to be the best Chinese, and they still are good, but now this is where most people get their fried chicken at. It's usually got a big lunch crowd, which is a great sign. Located on Bullet Tree road 2 blocks from downtown.
Best Grilled Food: Sanny's Grill Sanny's is hard to find, but worth the search. Romantic atmosphere, and open for dinner only. The hardest spot to find in Cayo: you’ll just have to ask for directions.
Best Fast Food: Mencho's A little hole in the wall. Look for the benches and signs for fruit juices and tacos across the street from Cafe Cayo. You should try at least 2 juices(only $1 each), and a meal in a basket. Great for hangovers too. Located on Burns avenue.
Best Bakery: Old French Bakery The Old French Bakery has the best homemade bread and baggettes! Lots of yummy pastries abound, and their croissants rule! Found in the new mall across from the bus drop off.
